Jonathan Wener is a highly regarded Canadian business leader and philanthropist, and is an accomplished entrepreneur with interests in real estate, technology, biotechnology and recycling. He founded Montreal-based Canderel Group in 1975. Today the company is a national innovator in real estate investment, development and management, with a history of over $11 billion in property transactions and offices in major cities across Canada. Recognized as a team builder and visionary, Mr. Wener leads an exceptional group of results-oriented professionals who are known for their effectiveness at achieving success for clients and partners. As a prominent philanthropist, Mr. Wener is a passionate contributor to the arts, education and healthcare. He serves as chancellor of Concordia University; honorary chair of Concordia’s Comprehensive Fundraising Campaign; is a trustee and member of the Executive Committee of the Fraser Institute; is a member of the board of the Goodman Cancer Research Centre of McGill University, and spearheads the Défi Canderel, which has raised over $15 million for cancer research. He was a member the Board of Directors of the Laurentian Bank of Canada for 19 years. Mr. Wener was awarded an order of Canada in 2003 and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2013. In September 2017, he was awarded the Samuel Bronfman Medal. The medal honours extraordinary service and leadership to the Montreal Jewish community over an extended period of time. In May 2018, he became a member of the Order of Montreal.
